Go Green

Emerald Green

We explored the color “emerald green” over at Get It Scrapped this past week.  It gave me the perfect excuse to find the perfect product to go with my photos!  I knew before I started this layout that I wanted to use navy and kraft colors to go with all the water and the wood of the kid’s rafts but i was not sure exactly how to tie in the emerald green.  I had these hexagon wood veneers in my stash already so tried several products to color them to their bright emerald color.  Acrylic worked the best for this particular color but I tried a few inks and stains as well.  The letters are chipboard and were a wood looking finish so those got some Copic color added to continue the green.  I added touches of sparkle with gems and a glitter pen around the kraft cardstock.  Make sure to check out the rest of the emerald green inspiration HERE!

I am late in posting this because i have been out of town so I will post a little about that later.

Scrapping, Theme Parks

My latest contribution at Get It Scrapped is for an article on Scrapbooking Theme Parks.  The layouts from all the Creative Team are amazing.  If you are visiting Disney, or any other park this summer you will want to take a peak!  Here is my layout;

Breck Alpine Slide by Michelle Houghton | Supplies: patterned paper and die cuts: American Crafts; ribbon and tulle: unknown; ink Sharpie

This particular layout came together fairly easily.  It helped that I had hung onto the background paper for the perfect occasion.  The other elements fell into place fairly easily 🙂 make sure to check out the rest of the inspiring layouts HERE!

Hugs all, I hope you are having a happy crafty day!

!!!Copic News!!!

This is the one I have been waiting for!  I am thrilled to announce that I have been invited to teach for Imagination International Inc. Yes that is right!  Copic!  I will be the first in a new series of classes offered to Copic enthusiasts everywhere.  The department is called “Special Project Series” and here is a short blurb about the new program.

The Special Project Series is a chance for crafters to take project-based classes in which Copic products are used with a number of other mediums to create interesting, unique, and fun-to-make projects!  From journaling to drawing, and painting to jewelry making, the new Special Project Series will offer classes that will inspire and excite.  Classes will range in location, duration and price and will typically be one-time-only offerings.  Special Project Series instructors are the best-of-the-best and design their own favorite hands-on classes to give you an amazing creative learning experience.

I have two brand new classes to start the project off right and you can be among the first to participate.  I will be teaching a Mixed Media Apron class and Copic Doodle Bead Jewelry class.  Here is a link to see all the information AND get signed up!  I will be in the Kansas City area this first round.

Hugs all!  And see you in Kansas City this August!

Two layouts at Get It Scrapped

With the craziness of summer vacation upon us I did not get last week’s Get It Scrapped layout posted.  I have to say I love this concept and I really had fun with it.  The article is on using collections on your layouts.  I initially assumed I would fill a page with buttons since I have done that before and because I tend to hoard buttons BUT as I started looking through my photos I found these shots of my daughters with butterflies and I thought to myself “hey, I think I have a lot of butterflies I should see how many I could dig out of my stash”  Here is the result;

Collections

Supplies: cardstock: Bazzill Basics Paper; patterned paper: Lillybee Design and Basic Grey; denim: Canvas Corp; pearls: Queen and Company; stickers: Basic Grey and Crate Paper; butterflies: SEI, Studio Calico, Maya Road, Jenni Bowlin, Queen and Company, Prima, American Crafts, Crate Paper and Basic Grey; other: thread

I found butterflies from 9 different manufacturers and managed to get them all on a page together.  One of the butterflies is colored with Copics, one is painted and all the others are as I found them.  I was amazed not only at how well they all matched but also how many I had tucked away. Click HERE to see some other AMAZING collections!

And of course as soon as I was finally getting around to posting this layout here comes the next.  Today Get It Scrapped tackled a fun new challenge, Combining Plaid and Paisley.  I am telling you this was not as easy as I figured.   These two patterns don’t play nicely together but I found some great help in two places! First I was inspired by one of the other articles posted this month, Polish Your Paper Mixes with Borders I also recently had the pleasure of taking one of Debbie’s Scrapbook Coach classes and I used one of the brilliant lessons from that class to help me create my layout.  Here is my attempt at plaid and paisley:

Supplies: patterned papers, die cuts,brads, tag: SEI; lettering: American Crafts and Jillie Bean Soup; ribbon: Celebrate It; ink: Sharpie

Happy summer all!

Paperclipping Roundtable

I was lucky enough to be invited to visit with the crew at Paperclipping Roundtable today!  Noel and Izzy run the show and Jennifer Mcguire and I were guests.  The topic today was markers and using them on your pages.  Of course that is right up my ally and the reason I was invited to share on the show.  Here is a link to the show!

I even got to announce a new job I finally have permission to share.  If you listen all the way to the end you will get to hear who I am working for.  You will have to check back here to see all the details when the art department gets the logo all together and registration is up and ready to go but here are a couple preview pics!
