Blogging Challenge 3/21 -Pearl of Wisdom

Well I am up again this week in the GIS Blogging challenge. At least these challenges keep me writing! This morning I was not sure what to challenge my fellow bloggers to writing about and then sitting in church my Pastor shared a lovely quote or what my Grandmother would have called a “pearl of wisdom”. You know, that small bit of advise that in it’s simplicity sums up life. So here is a pearl that Pastor Quinton discovered in his reading this past week;

First rule of holes: When you find yourself in one, stop digging!

Of course Pastor Quinton went on to explain how this fits into our Christian walk and relationship of resting in Christ. It was a wonderful message and as always he is an amazing speaker. The quote or pearl grabbed me this morning and I found myself scrambling for my pen. So simple and so true. When life keeps piling it on and you keep getting deeper and deeper into commitments and busyness the first thing you have to do is STOP DIGGING! Don’t try to reorganize, and re-energize until you stop the continual pile up of commitments you keep accepting. This fits in with the business many of us face as Moms, wives and workers, where do we draw the line where do we say no, and if we do not we just keep getting deeper. It also fits in with the book I am reading “The Happiness Project”. The concept of uncluttering your life so you can experience what you have to it’s fullest before it passes you by.

Any hoo, it touched me. I liked the sentiment, the humor, the simplicity and the thought. So obvious, yet not so easily accomplished. So this week I will try to remember, every now and again I need to stop digging!

Happy Sunday!

Blogging Challenge 3/19 – Family

Well it is not all of us like Jane wanted BUT it is a pretty darn good photo of me and my two beautiful girls. The challenge was to get everyone in the shot. I could post Christmas but this one is too cute to resist. Sara, Lori and I headed for the Botanical garden on Friday since the weather turned gray and cold and our play date adventure went cupoot. We had a lovely time and plan on going back soon! we might even let Grandpa Ed go. I’ll pair Sara with him and the two can chatter and read trough the whole garden, Sara can point out her favorites and Grandpa can photo for her.

Blogging Challenge 3/12 – Scent

OK so I have missed so many of these! Over the next couple months though I am going to do them all. All the challenges have been so great so I will just spread them out and do them as i have time!

Jane challenged us this past Friday to let our noses share a favorite memory scent. you know the kind that not only triggers your taste buds but your memories. OK so not all scents trigger your taste buds!!! Work with me people!

I can think of a few memories that bubble up with scent triggers. Not many to be honest but I think that is because my sniffer is not always that sensitive. So most scents that I smell are strong ones, often from the kitchen but a few outside the home.

One scent that is a trigger for me is skunk. Yes not pleasant but true. I have never been at the receiving end but I do know the song and so does my family (from childhood) and my family now. Do you know it? There’s a dead skunk in the middle of the road, a dead skunk in the middle of the road, dead skunk in the middle of the road, stinkin to high heaven!… There is of course more as many of you are now singing on but if now trust me there is more. We sang that so many times…way too many I am sure, out of tune and as loud as we could make it. Boy did we love singing in the car. It reminds me of that. And now my girls sing it, just adding to the memories.

Today there is a wonderful scent in my home! Chocolate Chip Cookies!

Happy Monday!
