Post Turkey Day catch up

After spending a wonderful week with family in Los Angeles I am back to my desk and back to work catching up with life that is speeding by. I had two layouts post at Get It Scrapped over the holiday week so I better get you caught up with both!

The first was in an article about using found objects on your layout:

Embellishing with found objects

In Loving Memory by Michelle Houghton | Supplies: papers, doilies, tag, brads, crochet flowers and die cuts; SEI, ink; Sharpie, chipboard letters; American Crafts, butterflies; my husband’s grandmother

This is a special layout in terms of the subject.  I had been holding on to those butterfly magnets for several years and I knew that I wanted to do something special with them that would connect the magnets back to the beautiful people they were from.  This layout was the perfect opportunity to add the gift the the memory and emotion of knowing these two amazing people.  There is other beautiful layouts and inspiration HERE.

Next I had a very fun layout post just a few days ago that is inspired by artwork found in children’s literature.  I will admit I am a fan of good art in children’s books so i have quite the collection hiding in my girl’s libraries that I love and bought because I loved the illustrations.  Here is what I created:

Children's literature insperation layout

Knock Knock by Michelle Houghton | Supplies: paper; Bo Bunny and American Crafts, water color; Shin Han, ink; Sharpie and Tsukineko, embossing powder; Ranger, washi tape and staples, unknown

Can you tell I had fun?  The background is created with water color.  I created the wash underneath on a heavy watercolor paper and then added the circles to mimic the art work I had picked out.  I finished buy using a Sharpie to add some doodled details.  The title is embossed stamping and then I added small details with Washi tape and staples, I really did not need a lot since the background had so much richness to it.  I’ll be honest this page makes me giggle when I see it and if my family checks in they might know where the inspiration came from.  Here is an image of the book that I used:

Children's literature insperation

Lamont the Lonely Monster

I had a wonderful job imitating the look of a favorite from my own childhood.  This book is so well loved that the pop ups that happen on every page and the doors that are included on the pages are all torn and falling off.  Yes every single one.  They have been taped, glued and re-taped.  But then I guess a book that has been around since I was 2 is allowed to have a little wear and tear 🙂  You will have to see the other Creative Team Member’s work as well, it is brilliant!  Check it out HERE.

Off to gymnastics and writing on my newest classes!

Happy Tuesday!

Scrappy Weekend Layouts

I had the pleasure of an entire weekend with my very dear friend Brenda, scrapping, shopping, eating and giggling it was lovely and I have to say fairly productive!

I did two styles of scrapping; I pulled a ton of old unfinished pages out from classes past and went to work getting them filled with photos, journaling.  Some were still in pieces so got adjusted quite a bit some just got photos here are a few of those:

Brenda and I took a class that was all about design that weekend, what we didn’t know was that it was a beginners class so we decided to stick it out for the kit and play in the class.  Yes that was us pulling out all of our equipment while others were quietly writing notes 🙂

The layouts that were designed for the class sadly were actually fairly poor BUT the packet of info included other examples of work people had created with the papers so we whispered back and forth and figured out these layouts, I really love them!

Of course then there were a few that got designed from scratch always fun.

This is a sampling but gives you a good idea of how busy we kept ourselves.  We really did have a wonderful time.  I am blessed to have such a wonderful friend!

Happy Wednesday and Halloween’s Eve!

October Haiku #2

Our photo challenge this month at Get it Scrapped turned into a photo/poetry challenge this month.  Doris challenged us to take 4 photos and write 4 haiku poems to go along with them.  She provided us with some information and inspiration HERE if you would like to play along 🙂  In the meantime here is my second attempt!

October Haiku #1

Instead of a full month of photo-a-day challenges for October Doris challenged us to do 4 photos and to write a Haiku to accompany each.  She left wonderful links to some of her poems and an article about writing Haiku poems in the Get It Scrapped forums, if you want to see and/or join in check HERE

This is my first one for this month 🙂

Here are the last 8 photos for my Photo a Day Challenge this month at Get It Scrapped.  I am a little sad to see it go!  I think I will just have to make sure it happens again later this year 😉

image(1)Maisey’s favorite color is the color purple, at least her Wuba is purple even if she’s color blind she LOVES her Wuba!  I even caught her licking her lips she loves it so much ha ha!

23 – Little House in the Big Woods

image(13)We have an entire town sitting behind our couch on a table, not just one little house.

24 – Perks of Being a Wallflower

image(4)Sometimes when you are stuck at home with Mom and Dad because your sister got invited to a party there are perks!  Chipotle, Yummmm!

25 – Oh the Places You’ll Go

imageFound this in our yard this morning, the top was about 4 inches across and from this view looked very Dr. Sues to me 🙂

26 – Scarlett Letter

image(3)Extreme close up but I think you get it.

27 – Twilight

image(2)Caught this one going in to gymnastics Tuesday night.

28 – “May the wind under your wings bear you where the sun sails and the moon walks.” from The Hobbit

image(5)This just seemed to fit and showed the beauty of where I live.  Sometimes it is hard to see in the humidity, wind, and flat land.

29 – Outliers

image(6)Thought Doris would appreciate this.  This little guy was clinging to the window outside the YMCA where I teach.  I almost missed him but it was so cool he just looked like he was floating!

Argh! Just realized I missed one, The Book Thief, I had planned on taking a picture of a book that accidentally made the move from Ohio with me.  I had borrowed it to read, never read it and forgot to give it back ooops!  Really truly!

Hugs all!  Hope you have a great weekend!
