Get It Scrapped latest

Hello family and friends.  Well we are rolling right into November and through it quickly!  I have two layouts to share from Get It Scrapped and I believe I will have a third later this week.  As per usual my assignments seem to line up nicely in little batches.  Here is the first based on a fun trend right up my ally, DOODLING!  Yep I actually got to doodle all over my layout 🙂

Doodle re-mix

Merry Christmas by Michelle Houghton | Supplies: paper, bling, cardstock borders and stickers; SEI, markers; Sharpie, Zig Bic, Too Marker Products and American Crafts

I had so much fun drawing all over my layout and my photo.  I designed the layout very simply purposefully knowing what I was join got do with it, but it could have stood alone without the doodling.  Here is a before shot;

before doodling

I stuck with a tone on tone color scene with creams and golds kept the embellishing simple but still included all my elements of title, journalling, embellishing and keeping the design balanced.  But THEN I got to play!  I used 4 different types of markers to get all the pieces in place some are opaque and worked well on the photo where others did not so there was some experimenting on a spare photo.  The girls LOVE that everyone got crowns.  They both did a double take and asked when we dressed up like that and then Sara said do we all look like kings and queens?  I gave her a big hug and said you got it girl!  She was excited that she got the purple dress :-).  I have to say the Creative Team did a great job on this assignment and you will want to check out the other Marker Doodle Re-Mixes!

The next layout assignment was to add found objects onto your layout.  Not just found in your scrapbooking stash but found from the rest of your life.  I had the perfect page in mind and was excited to put it together.

Embellishing with found objects

In Loving Memory by Michelle Houghton | Supplies: papers, doilies, tag, brads, crochet flowers and die cuts; SEI, ink; Sharpie, chipboard letters; American Crafts, butterflies; my husband’s grandmother

There is not much to say here other than I have been saving these magnets to include on a layout about these amazing wonderful people that I am honored I get to say I am related to, even if it is by marriage only, it is still an honor.  Kathryn and Eugene are two of the most selfless, giving people you will ever meet and I am blessed daily by having known them both while they were still in their prime.  Eugene leaves a legacy of love in his amazing family, he is and will be missed.

As I type this it is snowing outside!

Happy Monday all!

Scrappy Weekend Layouts

I had the pleasure of an entire weekend with my very dear friend Brenda, scrapping, shopping, eating and giggling it was lovely and I have to say fairly productive!

I did two styles of scrapping; I pulled a ton of old unfinished pages out from classes past and went to work getting them filled with photos, journaling.  Some were still in pieces so got adjusted quite a bit some just got photos here are a few of those:

Brenda and I took a class that was all about design that weekend, what we didn’t know was that it was a beginners class so we decided to stick it out for the kit and play in the class.  Yes that was us pulling out all of our equipment while others were quietly writing notes 🙂

The layouts that were designed for the class sadly were actually fairly poor BUT the packet of info included other examples of work people had created with the papers so we whispered back and forth and figured out these layouts, I really love them!

Of course then there were a few that got designed from scratch always fun.

This is a sampling but gives you a good idea of how busy we kept ourselves.  We really did have a wonderful time.  I am blessed to have such a wonderful friend!

Happy Wednesday and Halloween’s Eve!

Selfies

I have another layout up at Get It Scrapped today.  The inspiration is “Selfies” the fun trend of taking photos of yourself.  Those of uswho are the memory keepers and photograpers in our families are often missing in the photos so it is a nice trend to catch yourself on occasion.  Here is my layout:

SelfiesI’m a Gonzo by Michelle Houghton | Supplies: cardstock and letters; American Crafts, watercolor paper; Strathmore, pearls; Prima and Want 2 Scrap, ink; Copic; color on photos; Prismacolor, background color; Gelatos by Faber Castell, trims and tag; unknown

I had a great time creating this background with my new found medium Gelatos by Faber Castell.  Here is how I created it:

Step #1 – On heavy water color paper I used a white crayon, just a regular Crayola crayon, and wrote words all over the page.

Step #2 – I used 3 shades of Gelatos to color over the entire page lightly.

Step #3 – I used  a brush and water to go over the entire page.  I cleaned the brush regularly, I wanted the colors to blend but not mix completely.

Step #4 – I let my paper dry, distressed the edges, adhered it to a navy cardstock and added all my elements on top to finish my layout.

I also printed my images on matte photo paper so I could hand color my eyes.  I used Prismacolor colored pencils to do the coloring here.

Thanks for stopping by, I will have another busy blog week this week so stop back by! Oh!  And HERE is a link to the fun article at Get It Scrapped!

Happy Tuesday!

Media onto Layouts – Gelatos

I am starting a new series of tutorials over at Get It Scrapped!  It is all about how to use different mediums on your layouts.  I am going to do one tutorial a month and cover a wide range of materials.  This month I am taking a look at Faber Castell Gelatos and using them as water colors.  Next month we will stick with Gelatos and explore some of the other things they can do.

You can see the steps I have used to create a water color look on my layouts HERE and here is the layout I created using one of the water color techniques I talk about in the tutorial:

10  North Shore by Michelle Houghton | Supplies: cardstock and twine; American Crafts, die cut, patterned paper and sticker letters; SEI, flowers; Gueen and CO., Stickles; Ranger, Gelatos; Faber Castell

Some of my Creative Team members at Get It Scrapped contributed their art work as well.  Both  Christy Strickler and Marcia Fortunato created beautiful layouts using Gelatos, thank you ladies for sharing your work!  Please check the tutorial to see their wonderful layouts HERE

Chalkboard and Handcrafting on Layouts

Goodness!  When it rains it pours!  I have two more layouts to share from Get It Scrapped this week AND my next installment of guest designer work is up at JBS Mercantile.  Tomorrow I have an article posting at GIS that I have written so I better get caught up!

Here is my art that I am sharing at the JBS Mercantile:

This is a crazy little mini album that I created with the mini album kit and some additions from the Papercrafting kit.  (I cheated and did not follow the instructions but I love my little monster!)  If you would like to see the inside, it is filled with A LOT of doodling and Copic love, head over to the inspiration page at JBS and check out the pages.

mini album 1I also added 4 more layouts to the inspiration page!  Here is one of the pages, I will let you click HERE and go peek at the other pages at JBS Mercantile.

JBS…check! On to Get It Scrapped!  On Monday or Tuesday Debbie posted a fun article with TONS of inspiration for adding chalkboard elements onto your scrapbook layouts.  Here is my contribution:

ChalkboardBack to School by Michelle Houghton | Supplies: cardstock; Kraft and Core’dinations, patterned paper and chalkboard tape; Fancy Pants, chalkboard paint; Americana, chalk; General’s, ink; Ranger and Sharpie, brads; Stemma, trims and stick pins; unknown

I have to say this is one of my very favorite layouts as of late.  I LOVE this photo of the girls and the layout turned out just perfect, at least I love it 🙂  The chalkboard element on my page is done by painting on chalkboard paint then transferring my hand lettering with tracing paper and chalk and going over my letters with a Sharpie paint pen.  I used the exact same steps on another layout that I gave step by step instructions for HERE.  Check out more amazing chalkboard inspiration HERE.

Then on Wednesday Debbie posted a fun article about adding hand crafted elements onto your layouts.  Here is my contribution:

Craft on layout

Snuggle by Michelle Houghton | Supplies: cardstock; Kraft, ink; Copic, doilies; Bo Bunny, chipboard letters and twine; American Crafts, stick pin; Tim Holtz, metal charm, yarn; unknown

This was such a fun page to complete and really once I added the section of crochet work there was not a lot more to do.  I added the title, added doilies that I colored lightly with Copic, the bright white was a little too stark for the warm layout.  I searched a little for the charm to add the touch of journaling, I knew what I wanted but had to do a little shopping to find it, OH DARN!  This little metal charm is just right, I added cream cardstock, my note and then filled it in with Glossy Accents to hopefully make it look a little like an antique  broach.Make sure to go look at the other wonderful had crafted elements HERE

OK deep breath, I think I am caught up for about 8 hours he he!  I am having so much fun and getting a lot of scrapping done.  I will have another post tomorrow so if you are checking in keep checking back, I even have a few fun posts next week with layouts from my lovely scrapping weekend with Brenda!

Happy Thursday all!
