Once again I am blown away with how the Creative Team at Get It Scrapped takes a single idea and comes up with so many different ideas and techniques.  Today an article featuring using stencils on layouts posted.  Each Creative Team member used 3 different stencils OR 3 different layers of the same stencil in order to create a background for their layout.  The art work is beautiful!  Here is the layout I contributed;

I had a lot of fun playing with stencils and creating this background.  Here is a close up so you can see it all a little better;

I really love how the gesso looks as the top layer.  Because it is a wet medium it get the spray inks wet again and the spray inks pull up through the gesso.  In some cases some people might get frustrated with this wanting an opaque white but I knew how these mediums would react with each other so was hoping for the effect.  I found wonderful finds in my embellishment stash, the crochet flowers are from my friend Dawn and had been sitting quietly waiting for the perfect layout and the Jenni Bowlin dominos are just perfect for the page.  Who knew I needed dominos?  The journaling was printed out on cream card stock, cut into strips and attached to my layout.  The black border is hand stitched with thicker floss to give a substantial border and the wood veneers are from Crate Paper but one was a natural wood color, I “stained” it to match with a Copic marker.

The layout itself was inspired after sharing the photo on a podcast with Debbie Hodge at Get It Scrapped.  We were talking about photos with Grandmas.  I had a great time sharing about the photo and got helpful suggestions of ways I might want to take the page when I got it scrapped!

I completed a fun assignment that had me getting inky for Get It Scrapped.  The Creative Team was asked to use patterned paper with a Bokeh pattern on it.  I decided to create my own paper and used tracing and Copic Ink to create the effect.

The process was extremely easy to create the Bokeh print.  I dripped 3 colors of Copic ink from the various ink refill bottles onto the tracing paper.  As the ink bled it ran into the drips next to it, blending and filling the page.  To finish I added a few drops of colorless blender solution which pushed the ink away from where it dropped and added some nice white areas.

When I added my photos they blended in with the paper so well that I was loosing the edges a little.  I decided to matte them but the mattes were too distinct and took away from the beautiful Bokeh paper so I slid the mattes under the Bokeh tracing paper and then sat the photos on top of them over the Bokeh paper.  The effect is subtle and effective.  I added some small touches of red Washi tape and twine to add contrast and highlight the red and orange that my Dad and Sara are wearing in the photos.  I also used burlap banners and corrugated cardboard letters to add to the feel of the jungle page.   Just a touch of journaling under the title finishes the layout off.

Friday was a catch up day at Get It Scrapped.  Several articles went up including one using a bracket foundation for page layouts.  I contributed a page to this particular piece:

I had a pile of photos from this trip to the state fair.  And what I realized as I started to pull them all out is that they are not very good.  The only one I really love is the one at the corner of my bracket, or the L shape that runs across the bottom and up the right hand side.  John and the girls smooshed together watching the sheep shearing.  We are funny that way, I am not sure the attraction but we are huge fans of the sheep shearing competition.  We could sit for quite a while and watch.

The other photos on the page I wanted to include but got cropped significantly so you can focus in on the action.  Lori “talking” to the pigs makes me laugh.  They kept responding to her and had us all laughing as she snorted away and they snorted back.

I had a great time with my newest toy on this layout.  All the lettering was cut out using my new Brother Cut and Scan machine.  The “State Fair  2012” was a font included in the soft wear, but the other lettering is my own handwriting.  The cutter can scan anything and then cut it!  It will cut outlines, outer edges only, leave borders or not, it is amazing!  And for doodle me so fun!  I am ready to try some borders and doodles.  It will do direct cuts or cut my design out of a different piece of paper.  It is just plain fun 🙂  If you would like to see some other wonderful bracket based layouts check the article HERE

Well I am not sure what my plan is but Calvinball is in full swing and the competition is going to be fierce!  I am just playing for fun and knowing that I might get a couple days this month to just scrap for myself.  I will post how I am doing once a week (since that get’s me a point and besides it is fun to share).
