Imagination International, Inc. Holiday Wish List Part 1!

All I want for Christmas is art supplies. Yeah I still love to color doodle and explore all things artsy! So I am creating a two part post telling you about my top 10 wish list items that can all be found at Imagination International, Inc!

  1. Copic markers (of course!)

If you or the one you are buying for has an ongoing wish list of “must have colors” this is probably right at the top of his or her list it would be the top of mine! Copic markers are an alcohol based marker that will blend just like paint! They are low oder, have replaceable nibs and are refillable. You can store them vertical or horizontal and come in 368 colors yes you are seeing that correctly ?

2. Paper! Yep if I am going to color I want PAPER! Two amazing options at III that I love:

X-Press It Blending Card – pricy but oh so nice. This is a very hard cardstock in that it is super smooth and is going to take A LOT of ink! You can add layer upon layer and not bleed beyond your image lines.

Copic Sketch Books that are manufactured right at the III warehouse are amazing as well! I LOVE the paper in these books a little bit lighter weight, but still takes a lot of ink! It is slightly off white and the books come in a plethora of wonderful sizes!

3. Transfer Paper! This is one of my absolute favorite NEW products from X-Press It. This stuff is amazing!

You can run it through your printer, use each sheet multiple times and comes in graphite and white to work on darker papers. Best of all it will not come off on your fingers or your projects until you want it too! This is NOT the old carbon paper!

4. Another product that is from X-Press It is their tape runners! These guys are the bomb!

After doing a lot of research they discovered that the refillable dispensers were using even MORE plastic then the disposable ones so this guy even though it is disposable is being Earth friendly! This looks like your standard tape runner but there are some neat features, the adhesive is great super sticky, all you have to do is lift to stop the tape, no pulling or dragging to get the tape to stop.

5. Copic Multiliners make my list as well!

I am a doodler as you know ? and in order to doodle and add all my beautiful Copic color on top of my doodles I NEED sketch pens that are compatible with my Copics. Multiliners fill the bill, they are completely compatible (made by the same company to work in partnership with Copic ink). They come in multiple colors and A LOT of different sizes! If you are interested in refillable ink and replaceable nibs check out the SP Multiliners.

If you would like a little less expensive pen that is disposable (they will still last quite a while look into the Multiliner. Both pens are sold individually and in sets.

If you have any questions on the products I have listed let me know!! I am happy to help AND I will have a part 2 with some fun different products for the crafters in your lives. I will post those on Monday!

Dare 2B Artzy Gifts Bookmarks (Copic on Watercolor Paper)

So I know we say Copic goes on smooth cardstock, but today I am breaking the rules! Favorite part of art Learn the rules so you can break them 🙂 Today I am coloring on watercolor paper.

Today’s post is with a beautiful stamp set by Dare 2B ArtzyThe Potter.” I started by cutting one large sheet of watercolor paper down into 24 smaller bookmark sized pieces, 2 1/2″ x 6″ and stamped them with my stamps ( I used three from the set and set them up on my Misti for mass production)

Now for some Copics, here is a peek at what they look like before blending similar to cardstock, take a peek at the back too, not as much bleeding through, this is heavy paper. I love the rich color and wait to see how it blends!! (E95, E97, E99) We tell people to stay away from watercolor paper because it absorbs so much moisture so it sucks up that Copic ink as well. I have my refills sitting right here so I am just not worried about using up my ink.

Then I blended it just like normal, it blends beautifully. Watercolor paper is super soft so the blending is really easy!

I finished off my bookmark and added rounded corners and a simple tie. Here is another peek at the back as well. I could cover the back with patterned paper or more watercolor paper, but as usual I am not worried 🙂

Here is a quick close up of the image as well.

Head over to Dare 2B Artzy to see all the current goodies and while you are there check out this months challenge as well! (There are prizes to be had you know!)

Thanks for stopping by!

Have a Happy Colorful Week!

Dripping Copic Various Inks

I Love Copics! Love them, and I knew that is not news to anyone who knows or follows me. I love everything about them, the quality of the product is the bomb! But what drew me in to start…the COLOR! All of it all that glorious color. So I love to play with all my markers, but it also comes in all the refills. Yeah I can refill my markers with them so I never have to throw away a single marker body, but better yet is to play with ink

One other thing you might know about me is I am not afraid to get a little inky and messy. So every once and a while I leave my markers on the shelf and reach for my Various Inks. I found this great vellum paper with star constellations printed on one side and figured this might make a quick and easy card!

I turned the vellum over to it’s back side where the stars and lines are lighter and started adding my ink. I tend to start with my lightest color first. I just drip the color on the vellum. Notice I am not working with blending colors these have contrast to them. All are in the Blue and Blue Green families, but extreme differences.

I add my next color;

then my next;

and finally my darkest (not really darkest but the most contrast);

I go back one last time with my lightest color just to lighten up a few spots. I love how the alcohol in the lighter color pushes at the darker colors in this step.

Here is a peek as it is drying. It takes a little longer on vellum so I do have to have a little patience. I could heat set, but that might effect the vellum and while wet, the ink can still move around, like drip and smear so I pretty much let it sit.

Then I get to flip it over and see all the pretty stars again!

I chose a simple card base and actually like the vellum over a Kraft cardstock. I added some white Doodles with a Kirarina pen and ta-da!

If I want it will be easy to add a sentiment in the corner or even with my Kirarina on the vellum.

Fun, easy, quick cards are the best and Copic Various Ink can really add the color that we love so easily!

SP Multiliners and Refils

Did you know that there are 2 different kinds of Multiliners? If you are a Copic fan you probably do, and you probably already know the difference. There are the standard Multiliners these are wonderful sketch pens that are compatible with Copic markers for sketching, doodling adding on to images, weather you are adding color with your Copics or not Multiliners are a favorite among artists.

IMG_3975

So then what is the difference with the Multiliner SP? The difference is they are refillable! Same wonderful ink in richness and Copic compatibility, but with the Multiliner SP you get the same great benefit as your beloved Copic markers, you can refill the ink and replace the nibs.

IMG_3976

I own a few of the Multiliner SP pens and use them A LOT, I knew I would when I purchased them so I went ahead and bought the SP version so I could refill and reuse the pen. My Multiliners happen to be broader nibs (they come in a whole range of sizes). I know that I tend to be a little heavy handed when it comes to my sketch work so I decided to get pens that have slightly thicker nibs and stand up to my abuse. So along with owning these pens I usually have on hand refill ink cartridges and replacement nibs. The trick is having the correct ones.

IMG_3978

To replace your nib and/or ink cartridge you can use the Replacement tool if you like. It has two ends the wider opening is to remove the cartridge from the base of the pen. The tiny u notch at the other end of the tool will help lift the nib out of the top of the pen. Once you have pulled your pen apart (with your fingers or the Replacement tool) you are ready to replace the ink and then the nib. Double and triple check that you have the correct sizes of both!

IMG_3979

You can see on the packaging that the nib is specifically for a .5 Multiliner SP which is what is labeled on my pen. The cartridges come in two sizes A and B each one is compatible with several bodies. The B cartridge fits the .2 pens and larger where the A is for smaller Multiliner SP pens.

IMG_3980

Carefully slide the cartridge into your marker body until it fits tightly in the base. Then very carefully insert the nib. These have a long thin core that actually inserts into the ink cartridge. Always replace your ink first and then your nib. If you are only replacing the ink you might even consider pulling the nib out and putting it back in after the ink cartridge is in place. The core can be easily bent by forcing the cartridge into it.

Now that I have my pen back together I am ready to doodle! As you know I like to doodle!

Doodle Tangle #1

Next month I will be doodling up a storm to show you the Multiliners in action! Make sure to check back 😀 And if you would like more info on the FAB-U-LUS Multiliner SP pens and refill cartridges and nibs check it out at Imagination International, Inc.

Manga Comics Anyone? Yes You!

So if you are a Copic fan you might know what Manga is:

MANGA
(ˈmaNGɡə/)
noun
a style of Japanese comic books and graphic novels, typically aimed at adults as well as children.
Not necessarily your style? I beg to differ! Imagination International, Inc. has an amazing Manga program called iiiAcademy and it is for EVERYONE. The iiiAcademy is in comic book style and they even teach you how to read them!
how_to_read_v2
Then each “comic” or episode tackles another Manga issue, and here is the best part, the lessons are completely applicable to anyone learning to work with Copic markers, inks, and other products carried by III.
How about a lesson on which paper to use?

Or possibly how to refill your markers?
 m1_e9_desktop_3&4
Of course there are several lessons about how to color with Copic markers. I was particularly excited to see a few drawing lessons as well!

There are even a few free line images you can print and color to try your new skills on. And as a bonus there are short Japanese lessons you can download with each episode as well. You don’t need to read Japanese do not worry! This is really just a fun addition.

This is another piece of Imagination International, Inc. just screaming to be explored. My daughter and I are both excited to do more learning and playing with Copic!
So I have not tried anything of my own creation yet but figured I might as well color one of the downloadable line art images!
