Copic Coloring Dark Skin Part 1

Coloring darker skin tones takes a little more time and patience than lighter variations, typically there are more layers of ink, they are heavier by nature not as much alcohol solution in the mix. So it takes a little more practice and a lot more mistakes to get images where you would like them to go. You know me I am always up for a good challenge! So when Rubbernecker asked if some of the design team members would help showcase the new images featuring women and men of color I said sure I’ll give it a go!

  • Base the skin in an Earth tone E11
  • Use a mid-tone and shadow to add shape and depth to the face E13 and E15
  • Blend the colors together going in reverse, E13 and E11
  • Add small touches of a blue violet into the deepest shadow areas BV23
  • Fill the lips with E04 and small touches of E09 for shape
  • Color the head wrap and top in a series of reds R81, R83, R85
  • Add squiggled lines over the hair area of the image with darker colors E47, E49, C9 * note you could leave the hair alone the stamp actually stamps the hair black, I always feel like it needs a little more texture and richness. It is very subtle but effective.
  • Fill the pupil of the eye with a warm Earth tone, E35
  • Use a layer of E50 to fill the background and then go over the entire area with W1, this helped match the background to the patterned papers I have chosen

Here are the steps to create the card:

  • Trim a light piece of patterned paper to 4.25 x 5.5 and attach it to a card base
  • Use a scalloped rectangle die to cut a large rectangle from a blog patterned paper and stamp the lower corner with the “Live On Your Terms” sentiment stamp
  • Using the nesting circle dies cut two circles from coordinating patterned papers, attach these together and then use foam tape to pop them up on the card base
  • trim the image using an oval from the nesting die set and use foam tape to pop it up in the center of the circles

Guest Designing with Rubbernecker

Hello friends and family, I have a fun new post today! for thee next few month I am part of the guest Design Team over at Rubbernecker Stamps! And today is my first day to post.

I used one of Rubbernecker’s beautiful watercolor stamps, Scarlet Star to create this beautiful image by stamping with my Copic Markers.

If you have not seen me run through this process before here is a link too the YouTube video showing how I created this!

Then I created a card using lots of lovely layers using both thee Nested Rectangle Small Stitch Die set and the Nested Rectangle Scallop Die set. For the simple sentiment I pulled two words from the Brush Butterflies stamp set. Don’t worry you’ll see lots of butterflies next month!

Thank you so much for stopping by today and thank you Rubbernecker Stamps for inviting me to be a part of your team for a few months! To shop over at Rubbernecker through my affiliate link please click the banner below!

Stamp AnnieThing June Love

Hello friends and family! I am popping in with a little hump day inspiration from Stamp AnnieThing. I figured this month might be the perfect time to bring a couple stamp out to color up to celebrate June with summer and weddings in full swing.

I colored up the image with Copic markers and with two people I tried to keep the color palette pretty simple. You can add too many colors to an image and make it look a little too busy. So keeping colors closer to each other or coordinating through an image can help. In this case I made the couple look a little like my husband and myself so the skin and hair choices were determined by us!

Girl skin – E50, E01, E53, E93, E04, E33 hair – YR30, YR31, E21, E23, E25, E29, RV63, RV66, RV69 dress – B63, B66, B69 Boy skin – E50, E53, E34, E93, E04 hair – YR31, E21, E23, E25, E29 pants – E71, E74, E77 shirt – B95, B97, B99, B91

The background is an alcohol ink blob I created a while back, the dots and that adorable charm are from Stamp AnnieThing!

Thank you so much for stopping by today! If you have time hop over to the Copic In The Craft Room YouTube channel and check out a video coloring up these two cuties!
